[In honor of your visit to NYC, ickleruthiekins, I'm posting pictures from your visit from nearly 2 years ago!! Can't wait to see you again. ]
So ickleruthiekins came to visit, and we had a great time! Given the end of school, I had lots more time to hang out. First stop, Totto Ramen.
Since I’ve posted just about every bowl of ramen I’ve had there, here’s the tuna with bonito flakes for a change. Yum.
Orangina and Iv met up with us at Chikalicious later on for dessert. We got a variety: soft serve affogato, chocolate-on-chocolate macaron with soft serve, and strawberry shortcake soft serve.
The next day, R and I must’ve explored… and then ended up at Wasan for dinner with the Libido Effect. Foods consumed: oysters, raw meats for grilling, uni over rice, sushi, mochi ice cream, and others. Wasan has one of my favorite foie gras rice dishes, ever (not pictured) — with this amazing strawberry balsamic vinegar glaze over the top of perfectly-bite-sized portions of endive, rice, and foie gras.
Check out the jiggly almond tofu dessert.
The next morning, we continued on our eating expedition, with Traif, one of my favorite brunch places, ever, situated along the river in Williamsburg. We started with two shared apps: bacon donuts with ice cream and roasted beets with mozzarella cheese.
I love this dish — egg in a nest, with truffle oil and mushrooms.
Grits (I think) with fried chicken. Followed by an egg scramble below.
Love these three.
After galloping across the bridge…
…we got hungry again (or not), but we ate anyway at Doughnut Plant — my first time! The crème brûlée donut IS perfection.
And then that night, for dinner, Orangina cooked an amazing roast for us, served up with homemade gnocchi and a bunch of other yummy delicious food.
The next day, we trudged on to Peter Luger! I haven’t been back since 2007 — the last time I tried to go nearly a year ago (2010), it was snowpocalypse and they sent all the workers home.
R, utterly shocked at the glistening-with-butter slab of meat after it was chopped up.
Closer up — so gratifying. I love creamed spinach.
GO BEARS!!!
Leftovers in a bag — with the Friday Night Crew, minus Char.
The next day, R sadly left, but I accompanied her to Ippudo (who’s got nothin’ on Totto, pshhh) for a quick lunch before her flight back to CA. Here’s the pork bun, which isn’t nearly as good as the one at Momofuku.
Rice bowls: tuna & unagi.
The ramen.
We finished the meal and her trip off with my all-time favorite gelato place in the city — Il Laboratorio del Gelato.
Till next time…
